Ok, final questions about knob replacement
Some people is helping me, but I need a little bit more of assistance, PLEASE. I know that the firs step to proceed is remove the "shift pattern" by simply pulling it up with a screw driver, knife or similar. I have asked if this shift pattern is the OD button, and the people have said YES!
This afternoon I have tryied to get my OD button out of ****, but I am a little bit afraid, because it seems to be attacked to another piece. I do not want to force it and break it, so I ask to people that know well this 4+3 transmission and, if possible, have replaced the ****.
Must I continue pulling up the OD button? And then?
Thank you, your asssistance is very much appreciated!!!

Yes, you do pry/pull directly up the button. It is held to the shifter by little plastic prongs on the underside of the button. They are easy to break when the button is old.
Your profile doesn't show your email address. I recently completed a lot of work on my 88 shift mechanism and console, so if you will send me an email, I'll reply sending you close-up pictures of the shift **** with the OD button removed so you can see where the plastic prongs on the underside of the button grip the 2 plastic hooks and a metal T-shaft to hold the button on the shifter.
I'll also send you an exploded drawing from the GM parts catalog of the 88 shift ****, shifter, and linkages to the transmission.
My email address is my CF user name @yahoo.com.
