Longer oil filter for LT1?
Is there a longer filter that will fit in place of the stocker to add a little capacity? I just hate the rinky-dink filters on newer cars. The one on my Nissan blob sedan is even worse, looks like it came in an AMT model kit!
I know you can get a wider one in there by removing the cats and using the old style filter adapter, but I'm not sure it it ups the capacity. I haven't had my stock filter setup on in awhile but as I remember, it's not a tiny one that comes on the LT1? Are you having some oiling problems or is it just concern?

No, not having any problems. I'd just like a little more oil and filtering capacity. You know, why not if you can just screw it on? The LT1, at least my '95 takes a much smaller filter than older SBCs. I don't think a wider one would fit the base, it's real close to the engine now and I don't really want to change the base at this time. I do have a base I'm going to put on at some point that will allow me to hook up cooler lines but I'm pretty sure it's configured the same way.
Which filter are you currently using? We're supposed to have the PF51 which was replaced by the PF52, and they've been around for quite some time. These are much bigger than the PF44 and PF46 on the C5 and new trucks.

Without trudging down to the garage again, I'm using whatever the Purolator Pure One stock equivalent is.
Hey Chris, I've been using the AC Delco UPF-52 which is their best oil filter. It scored very well on the test that was on the forum a few months back. I think putting a longer oil filter on is not a good idea because of road clearance. For extra capacity, I think the only answer is another oil pan or remote dual filter set ups.
