Replacing stock mufflers on my 89 with 3 chamber Flowmasters. Is the mandrel bent rear y pipe worth the money? Difference felt by the seat of the pants dyno? Thanks!
Measure the minimum pipe opening inside a stock pipe and then inside a 3" mandrel bent pipt. You'll find about 1/2 the area or less. This is a flow restriction.
The most restrictive part of the exhaust system will be the limiting factor in flow. Free flowing mufflers may help a little but it realy takes front Y-pipe, cats and cat-back attention to uncork the HP Genie. Of course full-lenght headers finish off the treatment.
Check out my site for HP gains from some exhaust changes.
