When I'm not driving or not at work, my car sits in my garage. The garage is just big enough for the car and a few shelves, is all concrete walls & floor & ceiling except for gate.
Still when the car is in there it gets dusty really bad! So I was wondering: is there some magical way to keep the dust from getting on the car? Some magical appliance or some product to spray on the walls or something? Or is there a way to get rid of the dust on the car without washing the it and without hurting the paint?
I've browsed through the archives but haven't seen anything on this subject. I've just seen millions of great things about Zaino, so Zaino is on its way
Try a California duster... I use mine quite often. Of course the dust that gets on my vette isn't anything very harsh. Make sure that the dust you are talking about isn't saw dust (wood) or metal shavings or anything. Besides that, get a duster! .
I've had bad experiences with the duster...it does indeed dust your car, but the swirls add up!! but then again I HATE SWIRL MARKS!!!!!!!! I am a paint perfectionist! I'll send you my duster if you want one.
If its in the garage, then the best way to keep the dust off the hood, is to leave it open... I open my hood every night when I pull in, get a switch to switch the lights on/off. It also cools your injectors off faster, reducing carbon build-up, (someone told me that...but I bought it...)
as for the back end, I use a microfiber cloth... I use them for everything, but a dry one dusts the car excellently! just be gentile, the towels are a few bucks, but they are the BEST car cleaning product I've ever used, and I've bought it all!
What color is your car? mine is dark red, so dust and swirls SHOW.
when I park mine in the garage I still use a cover. A soft flannel cover is all you need. I got into the habit when I lived in Florida. I lived about 50 yards from the beach and even in the garage you would get salt on the car. It works just as good for dust and bugs, etc.
California Car Duster, greatest thing since sliced bread Make sure and let it sit on a newspaper for 24hrs before you use it the first time, this absorbs the excess paraffin sp? wax. Also, do not use it when the paint is hot ie:sitting out in the sun. If used when the paint is hot you will see 'trails' from the car duster but they easily wipe off, just use it when the paint is cool and you will have no problems. I swear by mine and live in the dustiest climate there is(the desert). A dust proof cover is a must also (I have the California Car Cover brand), after 3-4 days sitting under the cover there is no dust on the car. After driving down the dirt road to my house(at 5mph) I dust it off and cover it up...no problems. Take care...Jeff
My car is a "garage queen" during the week, and besides the California duster, believe it or not, I use a plain old feather duster.
This works well especially around the tail lights.
I use the CA duster and I have not found it to leave swirl marks. I have used it on my very black car for all of its life and I am satisfied. All of the other tips are great and a couple more tips is to not let the dust sit for more than a couple of days worth of build up and use a light touch and long even strokes with the duster and I think you will be satisfied. I too live in the desert and dust is a way of life.
