I know that they can probably be cleaned and reused, but I thought I would replace them. The part number I found which I am not totally sure is right is #14079999. Went to GM and it is discontinued. It appears to be a M10X1.5X32 bolt. Should I reuse, try to match one up, or do I have the wrong part number. I would try to match one up but not sure of the material used. Any ideas or part numbers?
That is the part number my parts book shows to attach the caliper bracket to the brake mounting plate. Your dimensions match those in the book. The description says, "BOLT, W/WA, RR BRK CLPR (M10 X 1.5 X 32)". In the illustration "key" the description says, "Hex", and doesn't mention the washer. After the size it says, "10.9 Pzor (1984)". THAT part number is for 1984, ONLY. The illustration descriptions are the same as the 1985-1990 bolt (1408053), however, in the text, the washer isn't a part of the description of the later bolt. It may by discontinued because of the included washer. I suspect it has a coating of "DriLok" (Pzor?). Unless they are damaged, I would clean them up and reuse them with a dose of Loctite. If there is reason to replace, I would use a good quality (10.9) bolt of the correct size and Loctite.
CFI thanks again! You are correct as the old ones have 10.9 on them. What does that mean?
If it is ok to do then I can probably clean them up and reuse. Just thought it would be good to replace them. I can match them up at the local hardware store with a stand grade 8 10X1.5X30 hex bolt.
You don't really want to replace a grade 10.9 bolt with a lower tensile strength grade 8.8 bolt. I replaced mine with a grade 10.9 socket head bolt and washer. It makes removing and replacing them much easier too, using an 'allen' key or a hex wrench headed 1/2" drive socket. Find one with a ball end and its a piece of cake. Also, you should use a drop of loctite. I use blue (nutlock) which enables easy removal. There are several grades of blue ranging from low to medium strength, any will get the job done in my opinion. Just don't use green, unless you want a fairly permanent job!
