My car failed the AZ emissions test on two accounts.
The one this thread deals with is the evaprotive link from the tank to the evap canister. They pressurize the tank (mine didn't hold it long enough). Where are all the rubber areas from the rear to the front?
Does the tank need to be dropped or can you get at it though the filler area?
There is a rubber tube link to the steel line on top of the tank and the rest should be up near evap canister.
I think there is a solenoid at the canister to control fuel vapor bleed into the intake system. If this is leaking it could be the cause of your problem. If tubing in the system were leaking to the atmosphere you would smell fuel vapors.
There is a valve between on the tank and the canister itself (at least on my 92). It holds pressure in the tank up to .7/10lb. At that point it opens and allows the tank pressure to escape to the canister. If your yr. has one, it could be that the valve has failed. There is a testing procedure for it but you have to access the valve to do it.
Nothing is ever easy on this car. I changed all the rubber hoses upfront and pressurized the tank. It is leakin air from the fitting where the wires go into the tank and where the metal tube for the vapors is leaking. So anyway - Silicone is a wonderful thing.
