ok I have no idea what what kind of adapter/connector is missing, but I know this would take all of 2 minutes to fix if I had the missing piece. When the pipe/tube/hose is disconnected it sounds like a REALLY bad exhuast leak. I can put it on, like in this picutre:
but if i accelarate hard or go above 70 it comes off.
here are the two pieces apart:
can someone tell me what the part is called or give me a part # of what holds those two together? Also, if anyone has the part # of the metal "shield" that goes over that metal pipe, I'll probably need a new one of those too, b/c I kinda tore up the one that is there.
oh this is on an '86

OK, Ecklers has the tube, which is part # 27005 and costs $43.99. The shield is part # 20265 (iron head, which I assume you have) and costs $21.99. You may want to try GM also, or David F.
The picture of the tube in the catalog shows flares at both ends. I don't see a flare on yours, which leads me to believe that the tube might have seperated from the flare. If this is true, there should still be a clamp down there (your picture is too dark to see) that's still holding the flared end down. You might be able to rig it by enlarging the one end and slipping it over the other and then use a worm clamp to secure it. I assume that's what you're doing now sans the worm clamp.
I have the exact same setup. I know the sound, but mine was loose on the exhaust manifold. That took a special GM clamp and a special tool to crimp it, but the sound is gone now. AIR pipe to catalyst has the same arrangement, but a smaller clamp.
Anyway, the top connection of the EGR tube (to the intake manifold) on mine is a flange (with two holes for the torx bolts) welded to the pipe. It doesn't look like your picture at all - the pipe is solid - maybe I already have an aftermarket replacement on there?
If you go with an aftermarket, you will also need the special GM clamp down on the exhaust manifold, and a way to crimp it. My suggestion is to try one more time to jury rig. If you think the clamp at the bottom would work on the top, the clamp is part number 14087580. The parts book doesn't show any clamp at the top, but maybe you can improvise. If not the EGR pipe is 14092329 amd the shield is 14101107. Good luck.
That clamp is a major PITA! What I did was saw it off along the crimp part, then clamped it on with a little hose clamp. Also put a little high temp RTV to seal it up a bit. It looks Bubba'ed I know, but at least I can get it off when I want to.
Wish some aftermarket whizz would come up with a better solution.
