Tire Suggestions Please

At long last it is time for me buy some new shoes for the Ruby. I am using the car as my summer driver and for traveling so a reasonably priced, quiet, and smooth riding tire is on my wish list. Any suggestions as to suitable tires and where they can be purchased will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Check out the Tires and Wheels section for answers to your questions. You will find that most everyone here has ordered from the Tire Rack who is the official sponsor of that page.
I recently bought a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE730 from them. this is a great tire for the $650 or so I spent. Very quiet riding and great wet and dry traction. First autocross on these tires got me a trophy!!!

I did a lot of reading about tires recently and was looking for about the same thing you are. Here are a few to get you started.
Around $100 - Kumho Ecsta
$150 - Bridgestone Potenza 730
$200 - Michelin XGT Z4
There are lots of good tires out there. Many will trade price, wear and noise for ultra high performance. Those listed are all high mileage tires that work good in the rain and are pretty quiet and comfortable for the price.

Well, I say the firehawks. $216 each off tire rack(I just bought a set 2 weeks ago, my second set.) I find them to be quieter than the GSC, and they handle EXCELLENT, expecially in rain. go for 285 in the rear, or all around if you have the suspension option that gives you 9.5in front wheels... I sport 285s all the way around, and it is near inpossible to break them loose.
just my 2 cents...

I just went from Yokahamas to Nittos.
the 285/40s are about an inch narrower on the Nittos. (the Yoks were a FAT n LOW tire!)
Nittos don't corner quite as well
Nittos are quiter and smoother running
At this point I would buy Nittos again. The Yoks were magnets for anything sharp and did not wear well.

After running a new set of RE730 Bridgestones from Florida up to North Carolina and doing the Deal's gap run multiple times I am very pleased with my choice. And the price was nice too.

Whatever you can afford. If you can spend a little over 800 go for the Firestone Firehawk Sz50's. If you can afford $1200 for Michilen Pilots so be it. If your on a budget. Go for the Khumo's $400. Just remember you get what you pay for. I personally use the SZ50 and like them, others dont because everything here has a mixed opinion. Choose what you can afford.

I use Pirelli P7000 tires, and have had good wear, low noise except on some grooved concrete roads, and good wet-weather handling. I think Tire Rack handles these.

I've had falkens on my 86,bridgestone expedias on my 89,firestones on my 92 and dunlop sp5000s on my other 92. also had goodyear gsc's. my favorites and the next set of tires i will by again are the dunlops. they have a utwg of 340 and a traction rating of AA. I purchased them from the tire rack a sponsor for this page. they are great for wet traction. they will also last longer than all the others with a lower utwg. utwg means univesal treadwear guarntee.

I felt the GSC's were a good tire the price may have dropped on them. Pilot Sports give a nice ride and should last long so they be cheaper in the end. I run them on my C5 when on the street and they made big difference in comfort. Good in wet also.
