I just bought a new switch for my '85 Vette's powerwindow, but I can't get the old switch out :-(
Is there any way to remove the little plastic square on top of the switch without removing the whole console top?
Un hook the negative battery cable before working on any electrical switches. There are six screws holding the console top. I just replaced both switches on my 86. I took the six screws out and was able to lift the console top up enough to work on the switches. I held it up while replacing the switches with a cassette tape box. The switches are held in with two screws each. Remove the two screws and pull the switch up untill the wires are out and workable. Carefully pry the switch off the electrical connector with a flat blade screw driver. They come off pretty easy, at least mine did. Take the old switch out of the holding bracket being careful to not break the edges of the holding bracket as this holds the switch in. Put the new switch in the bracket, plug it in and re-attach it. It took me about 30 minutes to replace both. I figured as long as I was replacing one I may as well replace both. They were only 6 bucks each. Good luck.
Thanks! I'm in the Netherlands so everything I need for my Vette is about 2 to 3 times more expensive than in America. I payed $13 for it. That's why I bought just one switch. But it's probably a good idea to buy the other one too, since it's still an operation wich requires some work. I heard it was a matter of removing the old switch with a flat screwdriver and then replace it with the new one. I'm going to try it tomorrow.
Thanks again!
