My rear brakes make a "creaking" sound when they are lightly applied. Brand new rotors and pads to boot. It did this before I put new rotors and pads on as well. Is this normal?? If not what could it be? Thanks.
Mine do the same thing. When I apply the brake and put the car in gear (auto), then slowly release the brake there is always a sharp creak just as the brakes release. Anyone else familiar with this? this car has done this for years, I just figured it was disc brake noise.
Could be normal. My new pads are semi-metallic. They squeal a little when very lightly applied, but you'll learn to modulate it so that they don't. Once they're warmed up though they are pretty quiet.
My PF's are the opposite.. they are prefectly quite when cool, and start to squeal when hot. As far as I've heard, the racing style PF's that I have on are supposed to do this. Dunno though... Wish I could get rid of this squeal. Tried brake cleaner.. and lots of it.. but no luck.
He isn't talking about under braking guys. Mine does the creaking noise too. Just sit still, in gear or not and push the pedal down harder then really required. I hear a creaking noise from the rear. I'll assume it is normal until I hear different from Hib or other more affluent corvette technician. Maybe it is caliper flex? I don't know....
My 89 does the same thing especially after the car has sat for a while.Very similar to the noise my joints make after sitting for a while. I wish neither one of them happened but i have learned to live with it.

If this is what you guys are talking about...I get that too. I just assumed it was the parking brake mechanism (probably the spring).
Hey Jack B, I hear you man, both my '88s brakes and my old joints creak too. You gave me a good laugh. I just thought it was age. But looks like newer C-4's are doing the same thing. It never bothered me enough to look into it.

Took possession of my 95 coupe just a few weeks ago and have been wondering about whether the creaking noise I hear from the rear brakes when releasing the pedal was normal. Reading the posts here, it seems like it's pretty common. For what it's worth, in my case, the noise pretty much disappears once the brakes are warmed up.
