Default Code 42?

I've been having a problem with the car not staring on the 1st crank. It also had a problem with a missfire when the rpms were up.
So i replaced the ESC ( electronic spark controller) cuz i hered that the earlier modles had problems with these. No luck..Overnight the car wouldnt start at all. Wired. So I replaced the ecm.
Now the car fires right up but wont keep an idle, with back firing through the exhaust/intake/exhaust/intake and so on.
The engine was just done so everything is new cap, rotor, ignition modual all sensors and so on.
Now with the old ecm it just kept throughing the 12 code wich is the start of the setion.
The new ecm dose it right with 3- 12s and then the codes
I get a code 42 now...wich is an ESC so since the ignition modual, ecm, and knock sensors are new what could my problem be? I've riped all the wires out of the looms to check for any pinched ones. Or loose connections. And found nothing. All the connections are solid. And all the wires looked good. All the connections to the ecm are intact and on.
All this trouble happend overnight wich to me is very wired.
Could the ignition modual be no-good? Because thats the only thing left. But the car starts up, not responsive at all and backfires but starts.
Thanks to all that read this rambling and say somthing good.

P.S....The Overdrive light on the dash comes on with the swich off. With the car just idling. Dont know if this meens something.

... my book points me towards theTiming Circuit as code 42... "Check the wiring and connectors between the ignition module and the ECM. Replace the ignition module"

I'm not sure what to suggest beyond that... Do you have a helms?

Are there any grounds associated with it? A bad ground could cause some screwy problems...

So i put a new ignition modual in. Now the car dose'nt start. I checked for spark and nothing. I whent over what i did twice and found nothing. The the rotors hitin the spring and so is the coil. I swaped in a coil that i know worke and again no spark. Battery connections are good. All fuses are good. Fuell psi's there. I whent over everything for a 3rd time and came up with nothing. WTF?

You must've found the source of your problem... now you just need to pinpoint it... I am not familiar with those though... Do you have any diagrams for it that could help you?

Not sure, but I had a similar problem with the rough idle and finally the sudden death of the car. Turned out to be a slowly failing opti-spark. Now its back to life w/o and codes.

PS: I know a shiny engine compartment looks great...but do it with a wet rag, don't do what I did with the garden hose.

Yes...but i check for spark with a timming light.
The other day before i replaced the ignition modual i was getting spark. It was running horrible, so horrible that if you moved the car would die. But it was getting plenty of spark and fuell.
