I have 92 LT1 6-speed. Should I put gears in or go with bolt-ons(Ram-air, chip, MSD)???I already have flowmasters, 160 thermo, throttle body bypass, & K&N with open air lid. Thanks

put in a set of 3.73 gears(possibly even 4.10's) and then put a 3000rpm stall converter in, and you'll be SET! For the price, the gears will give you the absolute most bang for your buck for the LT1.

White,
Get the gears....
They will definitely give you the SOTP feel....
I have the 4.10's and just can't believe how fast you can go through the gears..
Good Luck,
Glenn

I've got stock (for 6sp) 3.45 gears, and I'm going to 4.10s next week.
Right now 5th and 6th gears are both overdrive anyway, and the engine is asleep at 1600RPM on the freeway.
With the 4.10s I'm hoping to have the Vette pull better in every gear. It should be quicker in the 1/4 mile, auto-X courses, and on the street.
Gears offer a pretty good bang for the buck, but you want to make sure that you get them swapped out by rear-end rebuilding pros.
The only other downsides of adding gears are lower fuel economy, losing traction from a stop more easily, and losing some top-end speed. It's a worthy trade-off for me for the extra potential zip.

I hope to get a better converter myself someday with my automatic.
Money talks eh?

Put some 4.10's in the tail. Just did it! They've been in three days now. I was out driving (read playing) last night. I can't keep from bumping the limiter in 1st, 2nd, or 3rd right now. Yea it revs that quick. It will just take some getting use to on my part. Call Al Kindler he can get you a set of dana gears for $285 or so shipped. Lots of people say they (the 4.10's) whine. Mine make no more noise than the factory 3.45's
You will have to work on the speedo though. In your case I would get carputing's LT1 edit software. It is $250 if I remember correctly. That way you can screw with the other parameters of the car if you ever want/need to.

Honas,
$500 to get near the 11's is salesman's talk.
First off, if you want to make the N20 setup reliable you should get the safety goodies like a window switch, fuel pressure sensors, WOT switch, etc.. which puts it at around $1000+ installed. And 100HP shot takes about 0.6 seconds off a 1/4 mile time, adding 4MPH to the trap speeds. If you go over 100 shot then you need to retard the timing, and adding 150+HP can start messing with other stock drivetrain components.
So even though I'm glad that I added the N20 (it's a kick), I could probably have made the similar improvements just learning how to launch the car better.
Corvette Dude,
So far I bought the 4.10 gears from Al Kindler for under $300, and my friend pulling the differential out and putting it back should be about $150, and the actual gear swap will be another $150. So it should be around $600+ total, costing a bit more if you have a shop do the full swap.
I'm hoping to gain about 0.4sec and 3+MPH in the 1/4 with my new Corsa cat back and the 4.10 gears.
I'm looking forward to getting to the track again after I get it all back together to see how much better it performs.
