Hooked up cooling fan switch harness wrong. was hooking up a switch to kick on aux. fan and primary fan at the same time. The wire going to relay was to be hooked up to termanal E instead of termanel F (BAD EYES) any way now only the driver side of my motor fires (After being hooked up right) What do you think I fried? I replaced ECM - 02sensor and new Distributer. ANY HELP ? THANKS
What year is your C4 ?
Did you put a switch from pin E of both relays to ground ? (Pin B on a 86 needs to be grounded to turn on the relays)
If so this may help.
Terminal F is not in the schematic I have for a 1986.
Terminal E " on the AUX fan relay" in a 86 is connected to a fuseable link labled Fusible link E and is hot at all times.
If yours is the same as an 86 and has no power at pin E of the relay follow that wire back to the fusible link ( I will take a guess and say it might be near the battery).
The other fan relay at terminal E is connected to Fusible link D and is also hot at all times.
I see one 3 amp fuse that would be in the box for the cooling fan wiring. Its on the control side (pin C) of the cooling relays.
My C-4 is an 88 coupe. I hooked the new fan switch harness Two wires, One to the to the signal wire cool cooling fan. The other to the (E) termanal on the computer control relay. Which should have been hooked up to the (F) Termanal. Now after i hooked it up right, There is not enough spark coming out of the distributer to fire the right side of the motor.. I am about ready to give up. Thanks for the help.
Sounds like GM has upgraded the wiring from 86 to 88. I recall something about a different/better relay.
Anyhow to diagnose your electrical problem you need the electrical shop manual. You can get these at http://www.helminc.com
