It all depends on how big is the EGR leak and how rich/lean you were running before the leak. The peak power vs A/F has a fairly broad peak, so a moderate leak might not be noticible unless you were running lean before the leak.

I've had severe idle problems due to a leaking EGR valve diaphram though I could not detect any loss of power at WOT.

The EGR on my car has the vacuum supplied through a solenoid. There is no vacuum applied to the EGR valve, at WOT, and therefore a leaky EGR diaphragm won't affect WOT power. Besides the fact that WOT vacuum is minimal in the first place, reducing the significance of ANY leak.
