Default U-Joints/Wheelbearings - both sides?

Its a good bet I've got either a left u-joint or wheelbearing going - will be jacking her up this weekend to check. The question is - is it ok ot to replace just the one side or is it preferred to replace both at the same time?

Yes, it's OK, but... If it is just plain worn out, the other side can't be far behind. You don't do ONE shock, or the brake pads for ONE wheel, do you?

The u joints and the wheel bearings aren't as dependent from side to side as brakes and shocks, but it only makes sense.

I've got the same issue... strange noises from the passenger rear (likely wheel bearing, but might as well change the U-joints while I'm in there). I just ordered a rear bearing and U-Joints from Ecklers for that side. I realize that I will likely be changing the other side in a short period of time. When one thing goes, it's a good bet the opposite side is right behind it on the failure parade.
