Need some more info..
You said when it gets warm... Meaning the Car? or the weather?
Sounds like your starter may be getting heat soaked. does it eventually start?
when you turn the key to on before it does not start does the fuel pump run?
The resister pellet in the key could be dirty.
if Auto, the P/N switch might be faulty, if Manual maybe the clutch switch if faulty.
that's all I can think of right now

has the engine ever been out? check to make sure the block is properly grounded. The the engine builds heat so does the resistance of the starter goes up and if there are no good grounds it makes it more diff to start.

If you can hear the start solenoid click, then VATS is working ok. Measure the battery terminal voltage while someone holds the key in the start position. If the batt voltage drops below 9 volts, you have a discharged batt or a batt at the end of its life , or you have poor connection of the cables to the battery terminals. Clean the cable lugs so they are clean and bright and buy some large brass replacement battery terminal bolts (5/8 in) and throw the GM 5/16 wimpy bolts away! The batt - cable goes to the frame and a braid goes from this frame bolt to the left rear head. Check the condition of these lugs (should be clean bright) and bolt tightness (poor ground). If you still have problems, then when it won't start , you need to measure the voltage drop from the + cable connection on the start solenoid to the bolt on the start solenoid that connects to the starter motor when the start solenoid is on (start position on ign key). If this voltage is higher than 1 volt, then you have a defective start solenoid contact.
If this voltage is very low, then measure the starter bolt to starter motor frame voltage. It should be not lower than 9 volts or you have a bad battery cable, or a poor connection from the starter body to the block and you should check for paint or corrosion preventing a good connection.
