Default HVAC Problem - You Seen this B4?

I've got a '95 Coupe with the electronic heater/AC controller - RPO C68. Over the last year or two I've been having intermittent problems getting the temperature setting to go UP.

Down is not a problem. When it acts up and I press the UP button, the fan symbol lights very briefly and dimmly but the temperature does not go up. Because the fan symbol lights I assume the button is working.

It seems completely random...sometimes it works fine, other times it won't go up. It seems to be an electronic problem. Has anyone had this problem before? What did you do to fix it? This is the only thing that doesn't work on my car....and it's getting worse so I would like to fix it.

Thanks

sounds like a bad contact inside the controller.

Try removing the controller and cleaning all the contacts inside it. Worked for my 95 till I sold it.

what year car is yours?
You need to remove the a/c contoller, don't know what year yours is, this is easy and I can tell how to do this if you need me to.

remove the 4 9/32 screws from the back side of the controller. This will alow you to remove the face plate of the controller. unplug the wires from the face plate. do not turn the face plate over keep the button side facing down. on the back side of the face plate in the middle you will see two more 9/32 screws, undo them. now you can removethe printed circuit board from the face plate. on the other side of the circuit board you will see a rubber gasket looking peice. take this off. in each place on the circuit board you will see a spot about 1/4 inch round. this is the contacts forthe buttons. take a pencil and use the eraser and dip it in some alcohol and rub these circles not to hard but enough to clean them and the blot them dry with a paper towl. then on the back of that rubber gasket looking peice you will see dimples with a small black dot un them, this is the other contact for the buttons, do the same thing to these, a q-tip works really well, then blot these dry with a paper towel. then put the whole thing back together. Again be careful and do not turn the face plate over during all this, the buttons will fall out and it is a pain in the ---- to get them back in. It should work just like new. Like I said I just did it yesterday. Let me know how it comes out, Jay

Thanks Jay. I won't be getting at it soon. It'll be sleeping for the winter by next week. I'll tear it apart this winter.
