While I don't have one, I am aware that the opti spark causes lots of problems and I saw a post some time back asking if there were an option available to replace the opti spark. I came across an advertisement in my Feb 2000 Chevy High Performance. Yes I am a little behind in my reading. But there is an advertisement for Electromotive Inc. 9131 Centreville Rd. Manassas VA 20110 703-331-0100. The ad reads, "are you fed up with the weak Opti-Spark ignition in your LT-1 Camaro: If it's time for a change, consider the Super Direct Ignition system from Electromotive. It eliminates the optical sensor and the distributor and substitutes a complete direct-fire ignition system that fires each spark plug directly from the coil. The kit includes a crank trigger wheel for accurate engine position signal and will bolt directly on LT1/LT4 Camaro, Corvette, and LT1 Impala engines. These guys have a web site to, so good luck to all you opti spark victims.

They don't make it any more from what I understand. It was a great idea, but not executed flawlessly. There is a guy over on CamaroZ28.Com that has one working I believe. I thing is is "Injuneer Fred"??? You could probably do a search for a partial user name "Injuneer" and yes, that is spelled right.
Good Luck,
Other than the poor location of the optispark, this really is a great ignition system. The engineer that decided to put it where it is should be shot! The guy who came up with the opti needs to be given the power to follow his project to the end.
Im a memeber over there. The guys name in INJUNEER.
The company you are thinking of, is DELTEQ, It keeps the optical part of the distributor, and replaces the high voltage part of the assembly. There is a box included with the kit that converts the signal from the optical sensors, and converts it to a fire signal for the New ignition coils.
Sheet, I'd rather have the LTCC than the Delteq. I don't like the way the Delteq has all the coils located on a mount. It does not integrate nicely within the engine bay. Does not look uniform at all.
I like the looks of the coils being on the valve covers. Gives it that LS1 or race car look and it looks uniform.
The chief electrical engineer that worked on the Electromotive Opti-Eliminator is also the chief engineer on the Delteq unit.
He has improved the Delteq from what he learned on the Electromitive unit.

IMHO, I would go with the Delteq because it is a sealed unit -- no moisture intrusion....ask bogus why.
If the LTCC were a potted unit, it would be a hard decision for me.
The LTCC has rev limiters, etc.
As far as 4 vs 8 coils and the Delteq is a "waste spark" system, I don't think it makes any real difference -- 4 coils are good to at least 16000 rpm and 8 coils to 32000. I don't think my A4 shifting at 5400 is going to stress either one.

Yes, you are right, but, it can be sealed with some RTV.
Or, as I plan to do, move the LTCC inside the car. Problem solved.
Did anyone notice this post was originally made in 2001???
I got the LTCC because it has for nitrous and boost retard. Although I'm still looking to see how I mount everything, I will probably mount the unit under my factory computer. If I would have used the Delteq I would have mounted it where my EGR use to be on the back of the engine. I'm still trying to figure out how to fit 8 coils back there and keep it clean looking. For now the LTCC and the Delteq are the best two alternatives for those of us suffering with the opti.
