I'll take a guess and say that it could be mufflers with two "real" outlets instead of one real one and one dummy. My '87 has all 4 outlets open and as far as I know, it is the original equipment although my car was actually built in the summer of '86.
Since C2's are referred to as "Mid-Years"
since they were produced in the 60's
"mid years" of '63-'67, I would venture
to guess that they are comparing the sound
to that generation. Guess they're trying to
say it sounds like a big block with side
pipes or something.
I punched out the blank side of my factory mufflers and combined with the high flow cat the sound is great. I do have some resonance from 1600 to 1900 rpm. I think that goes with any exhaust mods.
I still want to get Power Effects but they are a lower priority now.
It refers to the bad @ss sound of side chambered exhaust. My folks 65 has side pipes on it, even with the mild (300hp) 327 it sounds KILLER. Big Blocks sound even better.
Ecklers and Mid America both sell the chambered exhaust system for the C4. They do not look like mufflers but rather straight pipes with a series of deep indentations in them. They sound like the mid 60 side exhausts.
Cars with the Z51 option had all muffler outlets functional and without the Z51 only 1 outlet worked. On my 88 the Z51 mufflers were good for 5 hp more.
