84 VATS problem "Help please"

My 84 coupe w/a new ign switch secruity light is on all the time. It has done this before. After a while, sometimes weeks it will go off and I can start the car. I put a new coil and dist. cap on it about 2 months ago and I can not get it to start since. I have to disconnect the battery or it runs down because the vats system is engaged all the time, the light on. Any help would be much appriciated.

GM help line told me to take it to a dealer, that would cost a small fortune.

for $25 Mid-America sells a VATS bypass that eliminates the system. easy to install too.

Thanks for the reply, that does not work for a 84, I have already talked to them. Only 85 up.

84 does not have VATS, that is on 86 up Vettes, you have some other type of problem

I agree its not VATS but 84 has a anti-theft system.
From whats in the 84 electrical manual the ignition switch has nothing to do with it. It arms and disarms through the door locks.

pull the DIC (driver information center) out from the center dash. behind that you will see 2 fuses. cant remember which one it is but one is for your horn relay, the other is for the security system. once the one for the security system has been pulled, the car will start and run normally but the security light will still show on.

I tried that. There was only one fuse, I pulled it and nothing happened. There is a little white box that when you turn the key to start it lights up, I wonder if it is a relay or something to do w/the security system.
