Default Shock fitment question

Anybody know if there is, & what the difference is between the `87 & `88 front shock fittment. I can find a set of Gabriel shocks for the rear of my `87, on E-bay, but they only have front shocks for `88-`96. My car has the hard riding Z-52 suspension, & I`m trying to soften it up a bit.

Thanks
Ken

I don't know what is the difference but all parts mags call out a unique P/N for '88 shocks, both front & rear.

I just installed new shocks on my 89. The part numbers were different for 88 / 89 than from any other year. I really don't know why, but I do know that the numbers were different for each manufacturere I was going to use.

Not sure why, like everyonelse, but 88 shocks seem to be year specific. Don't think they will fit an 87

Mid America and others have shocks for your car that they advertise to be a little less harsh, if that's what you are trying to accomplish

I didn't realize 87's had Z52, thought they just had Z51 option.

On my 88, with Z52, I don't find the ride objectionable, even after 7 or 8 hours of driving. In fact, I have upgraded to heavier swaybars and the Z51 shocks with no adverse effect on comfort

Thats odd because on E-bay, the company selling the shocks (fruitridge tools) states that they have one part number for `84-`87, & another part number for `88-`96. The price is pretty good though, $18.95 for the rear pair, & like $21.95 for the fronts. They claim that they are NOS in the box Gabriel gas riders. Seems like if they work, you can`t go wrong for the money.
