Hope you guys can help me out. I have a 90 vert with 6 speed, 54K miles. Here is the problem, after the car warms up I get a terrible metallic sound from under the car while idling, it is engine speed related, pushing in the clutch has no effect, can not detect the sound while the car is in gear and the engine is under load (driving or just letting the clutch out a little). Tried to track it down while running on a lift, the sound seems to be coming from the bell housing area. The car shifts with no problems. I think that the clutch, throw out bearing or maybe even the flywheel is the culprit. I should note that the problem first started after I left the car at the dealer to get it inspected.
i have exactly the same symptoms, it sounds like you are talking about my car. my noise started when the clutch was changed to a heavy duty 'brass button' clutch, checked everything and seemed to be ok. Has your clutch been changed? It doesn't seem to hurt anything like this, as like yours the noise goes away when actually in gear and driving, but once engine is warm it gets annoying while idling in traffic, it does however get less/ dissapear if i hold rpm at 1300, which may indicate gear rattling as less vibrations, smoother idle at this rpm.
I posted on here a while back and was told it was normal, although the sound isn't normal to me.
sorry i could not be of much help but if you do rectify your problem could you please let me know what it was so i can check for the same.
