Default I Need Some Help Diagnosing Engine Noise.

It sounds like a very low pitched squeal / grinding sound coming from the front of the engine. Since there are so many moving pulleys and bearings it's impossible for me to determine which component is the culprit. I checked each fluid circulating component for leaks and found none. All gauges indicate normal readings and there are no trouble codes. I was even tempted to use the old giant screwdriver to the ear but I don't know what to listen for. I really hate to start replacing parts that are still good and are in working order and find the problem by process of illimination. Thanks for any help.

Giant screwdriver works for me. Check the idler pulley and the air pump. Those two seem to make the most noise IMO. If you can hold the screwdriver on the bolt of the idler pulley you'll be as close to the bearing as is possible. Anythings possible, check all of the components.

You might try removing belt and spinning everything by hand. Something might be hard to turn, feel loose or make a noise.

That's how I found the water pump bearing was going. Not leaking, just noisey.

Is it that easy to spin the water pump with no belt attached? I thought it would be next to impossible without cranking the engine.

That's what all the guys spending a fortune on electric water pumps would like you to believe.
