Default L-98 Frisby

Can anyone please tell me WHAT is the purpose Of the frisby on the L-98? Will removing it hurt the motor? Thanks

It's there to balance out the harmonics of the a/c compressor and some report a vibration once it's removed.

Just for the record, I removed mine about 6 months ago, no problems.
BTW, it weighed 8 1/2 pounds.

Thanks

When I asked Gordon at Carlisle he gave me the story on the frisbee, pic & story on my site.

Bottom line...toss it from your '88-'91 L98 for a free 10chp gain.

Just make sure you put in a small washer and a lock washer on each bolt on the waterpump pully to make up for the thickness of the now missing frisbee when you reinstall them, or some shorter bolts.

On My "98" I removed the Frisbee and reinstalled the 4 stock bolts and lock washers.. I checked for clearance and nothing was even close to hitting anything. The pulley spun freely and everything tightened down fine without any additional washers.

Well not sure about the 98 but on the 90 the bolts are too long without the frisbee and wont tighten the pully down well. A washer about the thickness of the frisbee(at mount holes) placed on top of pully (not under), fixes the problem.

The purpose of the frisbee where I work(a public place but not a gas station) is for the bathroom key not to get stolen/lost

I removed my 90's frisbee and reused the stock hardware with no problems. I'm certain that the inertia/mass of the frisbee was at least part of the reason my water pump mounting gaskets failed. Think about it.
