Sorry to ask such a basic question, but I'd really like to hear from those who have done this. I am about to replace a rear wheel bearing along with some rear axle u-joints. I need to raise (no problem here with the floor jack) and support (big question) the rear of the car to safely work on it.

Anyone have any suggestions as to the best location to put the jack stands to safely support the rear end? I plan to jack up both sides instead of just one, so I need a spot that will take the weight. Anyone have any specific pics of this? Thanks for any help on this one.

Placing the jack stands wrong could be devistating, so it's better to ask than repair your floorboard.
If you are jacking up 1 side then the other, go up gradually. It's safer that way. Remember to lower the car slowly on the stands.
Just in front of the rear wheels, where the dog bones attach to the body, there is a open-ended triangle looking area. Put the jack stand inside here.

It might be a good idea to raise the front as well. If so, you'll need to drive the car up on 2x's so you floor jack will fit under the front plastic cowling. Once it's in the air, behind the front wheels, the frame bends toward the engine. Place the jack stands here.

Take your time and double check things as you go.
Good luck.

I always use the vettes jacking points that are on the sides of the car behind the front wheel and in front of the rear wheel. If I'm working on the rear I raise the front and get it high enough to put my jack stand in the rear and vice-versa for the front by jacking the rear as high as she can go and put the jack stand on in the front. For added safety I always use a second set of jack stands.

Thanks for the info! I really appreciate the help. This is the first time I've tried to raise the whole rear end, so I thought it better to sound stupid than do something stupid. I appreciate your help in keeping the Vette in one piece.. and me as well! Thanks again!
