A friend of mine has an 85.
He has a complete LT4 on it.
He is trying to remove the harmonic balancer.
He is noticing thet the distance between the horizonthal bar of thr front frame is very close to the damper.
It seems that the distance is LESS than the thickness of the damper.
Do you know if a 96 frame is different (longer) than a L98 frame?
or if the combo engine / harmnic balancer on a LT4 is shorter than the same combo on a l98 engine?
on aregular LT4 is it possible to remove the balancer without lifting a bit the engine?
here a pic:
Thanks

I believe the LT4 balancer bolts on to the crank snout. It should unbolt and you will either have to wiggle it out or jack up the engine. Someone with an LYx motor needs to chime in.
I had an LT1 in my 84 and the ballancer wil come off with out having to lift the motor. Pull the 3 ballancer bolts and pop it off the hub then it can be turned enough to get it out. BTW, it is just as tight on my 94
Remove the three bolts of the inner to outer damper piece. Then, lift the egine so the damper will clear the crossmember and tap from behind, under the car with a brass rod positioned over the subframe crossmember. I left 3 threads in the nut on the mounts and jacked engine up only that high to clear in my LT4. If you need to remove the complete damper, you will need to get a puller and remove large center bolt, too.
