Where is the fuse located for the rear window defogger on a 93'. Everytime I turn on my rear window defogger the light comes on but it doesn't heat. And, this is really strange - my radio gets static when I turn on the defogger!
I can hear a clicking coming from the glove box when the switch is depressed, yet I not sure what's up!
Any help, much appreciated!
chris
The fuse on my '88 is with the rest of the fuses at the passenger side end of the dash. One thing you might check that happened to my defroster is that the connection to the glass at the rear hatch had come loose and needed to be resoldered.
Rear window connections have been cleaned and checked for any cuts or breaks in wire...none visible from what I can see. My fuse box on passenger side (side of glove box) has no location for rear defogger. As I mentioned, I can hear a clicking when I depress the switch coming from inside or underneath my glovebox. My other controls on my electronic dash work perfect.

The relay is located in the fuse panel box on the passenger side. It's a metallic, rectangular shaped relay. Make sure it's seated properly. They can loosen over time and cause the problem you're experiencing.

Well technically thats not a relay, it's a circuit breaker. It's like a self healing fuse. If it gets an overload it opens, cools and closes without just blowing and needing replaced like a fuse.
I was told the relay needs replacing. The fuses in the engine compartment are ok, the continuity in the wiring is ok, so where the heck is the relay?!
Is it the metallic ones in the fuse box (passenger side) or are those just fuses and not the relays I need to replace? I'm really confused now!
This is a classic case where it really pays dividends to have the factory (Helms) service manuals for your Corvette. The 40 amp fuse for the defogger is located underhood on fuse block #1 on your 93. However, there is (in the manuals) a comprehensive and somewhat complex troubleshooting procedure to determine the problem of an inoperative rear defogger, up to and including "open" grid lines and their repair. If your Corvette has the electronic climate control, the "on" signal is recognized by that unit. In rare cases (according to the manual) it is sometimes necessary to cycle the defogger switch a couple of times if the climate control head does not recognize the "on" signal at first. Every Corvette owner, if he is serious about resolving his own repair problems, should invest in the service manuals. Time and money, and a good deal of frustration, will be saved by the simple expedient of opening the manual and following the troubleshooting steps. Many folks complain about the costs of manuals and then go about spending wads of cash that result in a non-fix scenario. End of sermon.
And a Sermon it was...
The 40 amp fuse in the engine compartment was checked (read above) continuity for a break checked ok (read above).
Just want to know where (if one exists) is the RELAY!
Yes, I have a repair manual, it may not be the OEM Helms, but it gets the job done.

Your advice happens everyday at dealers trying to sell or push their products.

Adios Dude, I have no use for Sermons!
BTW-Anyone and everyone looking for help or advice from C1 to C6 just go tell them to buy a manual and we could close this forum!
Ouch! Sorry you took my post the way you did. I wasn't trying to be a smart-***. OK, your defogger relay (in your 93) is under the dash on the passenger side. You have to lower the panel that contains the courtesy light; there are a number of relays in a "block" under the dash. The tops of these suckers face toward the firewall, so they are kind of hard to replace once you get them out, because you can't see what the heck you're doing. From left to right, you have (1) fog lamp relay, (2) courtesy lamp relay, (3) fuel pump relay #1, (4) horn relay, and to the far right (5) is the defogger relay. I have owned a Corvette since the mid 60's, and I've helped a lot of folks, and received a lot of help from good folks. We all start with the same hours of experience -ZERO. My advice has always been for folks to have a service manual, it helps to understand what the heck is going on and helps to ask good questions. I prefer, and it is my choice, to have a service manual that is model (year) specific because during the years, the C4 underwent a LOT of changes. My bad was to read only your original question, that asked where the fuse was. I should have read the rest of it. But having made that mistake, I can honestly say that if I had read all of it, I would have passed along the info I've included in this post on the relay position. I hope that replacing the relay resolves the issue for you. I've been thinking about it, and it's possible that bad contacts in the relay itself might cause static in your radio. Good luck.

Reason: specifying model year
Vetteseniorcit, thanks for the kind and informative reply. I guess I may have over reacted myself - especially under my frustrated conditions. I think what capped it was the next post of someone jumping on the bandwagon just to add another post to his totals. Absolutely no value contributed to the question submitted.
I've been a gear head for quite some time and, I too have owned vettes (really 1 other) in the 60's, so it puts us in the same generation. Anyway, I just may retire my 40th Anniversary - I saw an 04 Commerative Edition on my dealers lot.
Again, thanks for the info. If I keep ol' Ruby I'll tackle the job soon.

I could be wrong, but I thought the CCM module 1 would spit out a 22 for a bad defogger relay or if the ground side, controlled by the PCM was inoperative.
You're correct about the code; but once again, if the person that you're trying to advise doesn't have reference to a "factory" manual, it would be a monumental task to "walk" someone through all the troubleshooting steps. And DANG! There are a LOT of them. I wish that I had a dollar for every time I went confidentally to work (manual in hand) on some problem and spent the next two days looking for a fusible link that the manual insisted was right in front of me! During my tribulations and trials, at times, I talked to myself, to God and even tried to make a deal with the devil if only I could find the blue wire that was part of circuit whatever and led to the relay (which defied my every attempt to locate same). I usually succeeded but my thought was always the same: "Why the Sam Hill didn't they say that the (whatever) was hidden behind the thigamajig?" (Sigh!) And my wife of 50+ years never gave me a break. Her comment was always, "Are we having fun yet?" One of these days, Alice...Pow!
That's why I come to the form if someone did it then I don't have to read about it.
