Default Stroking.....

I am considering stroking my motor to a 383... I have already done all of the top end.. Started out life as and LT1 then went to an LT4 with Hotcam.. Very nice but needs some more umph... The car is complete and solid running mid 12's consistently...

What is the cost and what is needed? Should I use the existing LT1 block and build or go with and after market block already completed?

Anyone know of a good shop in Maryland for this?

What can be expected in power?

Well, you're kinda stuck with an LT block for a couple reasons

1. Your heads won't work on a standard block...but you could have them converted to normal cooling

2. You would need to replace your current computer with an aftermarket system like FAST of Big Stuff because a standard block cannot use an opti

As for parts...I'd look into a good short-block, either from Scoggin-Dickey or from Speed Demon Motorsports. They both have good deals on LT 383 assembled shortblocks...about $4495

While you're at it, I'd also look into the following;

1. Aftermarket oil-pan and high-volume oil-pump
2. High-volume fuel pump
3. Bigger radiator...you may not need this up in Maryland, but something to consider when you have it apart anyway
4. MZ Electric water pump...good from some HP and helps with cooling...get the Heavy Duty unit
5. An individual coil system, either the Delteq or LTCC system...might as well ditch the opti as much as possible while you're in there!
6. The HotCam will work, but I'd go with something bigger (CC306 or GM847)
7. Are your heads ported, or the stock LT4 castings? Now would be a good time to look into some port work, or if they've been ported get them "freshened up" with a valve-job

Good Luck!!

keep stock block!
you can get basic kits starting at like $2000 or you can go to a bullet proof bottom end for around 7k-9k.

wont change hp but your torque will be redicious!!!!!!!
heads/valve train are for hp bottom end is for torque.
youll be running low 11's!!! if not break into 10s.
383 is made by boring the stock cylinders .4 over and getting a 3.75 crank. while the enigine is out of the block i recomend cryo treating the block! this will allow your engine more than twice the life. it will strengthen the metal itself, reist corrosion and wear!
lunati is my choice. but its more expensive!
someone will chime in, but go to a place where they offer 383 packages. that way you have an up front price and a guarentee if anything goes wrong. you need custom computer tuning because you are going to need alot more fuel going to it!

I am a metallurgist! I can do the whole engine block and then other parts individually! if you want me to. I highly recomend doing this! It is worth the extra $ and will give you piece of mind!

what corvette place you use depends on where you are! you could also buy a kit and then have someone install it. but if you do talk with the person installing it,must be corvette specific!!!, and make sure you are buying everything you need!

good luck and let me know
In a week or so I will get my supporting vendor tags!
thanks alot

The only parts needed to make a 383, are pistons, rings and a crankshaft. You will also need an appropriate flywheel/flexplate and damper of you opt for the external balance. Once you have the engine down, you will want and need additional parts to finish up the freshening, but the above parts are all you need to make it the conversion to a 383.

RACE ON!!!

PS. The 383 is a 4.030" (.030" oversized) bore with a 3.75" stroke.
