Default ZR-1 DFCO Disabling

My 90 ZR-1 backfires on the overrun with headers
installed, it's driving me nuts.

What table/parameter in the .bin file needs
to be changed to stop the backfiring, I can't
see anything relating to DCFO?

Checking the 90 ZR1 8EA ECM in TunerCat...I do not see any way to adjust decel realated parameters (timing or fuel).

If you get an answer, please post it.

Both sides? Get a WB O2 and see what the AFR is doing. It sounds rich, leaking injectors or too rich in the WOT tables.

Carl,

Good to see you hanging around! That sounds similar to what mine did/does from time to time!

That's what I found too. But Marc Haibeck does a custom chip which eliminates the backfire with headers. I haven't a clue where the decel parameters are. Does TunerCat only show a limited number of the tables?

Maybe Todd Pepmeier, ZR-1 cal guru could help out. I'll try e-mailing him.

Tyler, it's not an AFR problem per se, my friends ZR-1 started backfiring after headers were installed, he and I both have stock engines.

I'll let you know what I find.

Everything is an AFR problem. AFR tells you what is going on. Is it too rich too lean, its where do you start.

Oh yeah. He is a link that shows what you are talking about on a 90 ZR 1 calibration.

Try adjusting it in TunnerPro.

Just got the solution.

I e-mailed TC at TunerCat with my problem and he sent me the latest definition files for the $8E and $8EA ECMs. These allow access to the DFCO parameters in the ECM constants table.

I plan to try disabling the DCFO function by adjusting the parameters appropriately.

Thanks, I reprogrammed the chip myself and it works great, no backfire anymore and the car drives much more smoothly without the DFCO.

I might try contacting JR
