1988 C4 automatic shift knob removal

1988 C4 automatic shift **** removal
Pardon my ignorance, but i can't figure out how this shift **** comes off. I have removed the center push **** and the snap ring, **** will not pull off. Does it unscrew?

i've had an 85, 90, and 96 - none of the gear shift ***** unscrewed! most of the time, they will pull straight off, but i did have one that (i'm thinking my 96) was stuck or frozen in place, and i had to work at it to remove it. they all have a slot for alignment, and pull straight up, but they do not unscrew.
