larryfs, I am the Ease rep LT4BUD mentioned. I use the Ease OBD1 tool on my 88. For someone like yourself with one manufacturer for all vehicles, Ease offers a pretty good package of tools. The Ease Personal OBD1 scan tool is $315 and will scan just about every 1982-1995 GM vehicle made with parameter sets specific to that vehicle per GM spec. The $350 Ease OBD2 scan tool will scan everything GM 1996 to current models. If ordered at the same time as the OBD1 tool the OBD2 tool is $230) Ease also has a Generic OBD2 scan tool for all 1996 basic OBD2 parameteres that runs on Palm Pilots, WinCE and other handheld units. For a package of 2 laptop tools to cover all OBD1 and OBD2 GM models it would be $545. If you buy the tools through me I can get you 10% off the purchase price.
The Ease tools come with everything you need. The software, the interface, a 6ft. serial cable to move the laptop to any place in the car, a high quality OBD1/OBD2 cable, and even a surge protector to prevent nearby high voltage interference or induced overload voltage on your com port. Ease tools work on Win95, 98, 2000, NT 4.0, XP.
Email me directly and I'll be glad to send an html write-up I did of my own use of the GM OBD1 scan tool on my 88 Vette. It has scan shots from a diagnostic scan on my car which show the abilities of the tool to a greater level than the Ease Web site.
