Default Exhaust opinions

I'm trying to piece together an exhaust system for my '85 l98...

after the LT's, I wanna put on a true dual exhaust, no cats...

What do you think of these options?

these would take a little cutting. They're only 2.25". I'd probably add flowmasters or something to em...

OR

It would take some welding and fitting to get hooked up to the Headers, but should be okay the rest of the way. These are 2.75". Are they too big? Do you guys think they'll be too loud? -no cats-

What are your current mods? The performance advantage of true duals won't be realized unless you're running a stroker and even then would probably be minor gain over the standard L98 C4 exhaust systems. The PE system sounds great without cats. I have that on my 89, and with TPIS long tubes it has a deep growl very similar to a BB type sound, and its adjustable so if you want to quiet it down, you can. Not much more than your second option there and it will require no fabrication to install. You would have to make your own test pipe if the main cat was removed and your LTs should have already removed the 2 precats.

85's have no precats, so I don't hafta worry about that- it uses a little different design from your 89, and is much more restrictive, or so I've been told and read...
PE system? What would PE be? guess I'm still a noob

I have the 21/4" system now. And with my mods it sounds like crap. When the car was near stock it sounded very good. VERY loud but i like that. The mufflers are the magna-flows. I have it hooked up to full-lengths. Mods are in sig.
Im getting a 3" system sometime. And if you would like this kind of system you could have it cheap. Only a summer old. Not driven in the winter.

PE= power effects. Exhaust system. You can get one that exits on the side or the back of your ride. Expensive like around 1,200 or so

If your engine is mostly stock you won't gain as much from the exhaust, be careful not to make it too free-flowing, the L98 needs some backpressure to make its low end torque. Since the L98 doesn't breath at higher rpm you won't benefit as much since the exhaust adds more power at higher rpm's. If you have intake and cam mods then the exhaust will make a big difference. Also you might want to get an estimate from a local exhaust shop since those prices seem high. When I put LT's and dual 2.5" exhaust with free-flowing mufflers on my L98 it didn't do as much as I expected because I lost low end torque. Once I did some major mods then my engine loved the LT's and dual 2.5" exhaust. Good luck.

Your 1985 and my 1984 are similarly constructed. I have 2.5" true duals into an "X" pipe and then back to stock mufflers. It is only marginally louder than stock. Besides being too quiet, I think there may be a horsepower or two in a muffler change.

RACE ON!!!

Not for the L98 system. I thought it was more like $850. The LT1 PEs are over 1K.
