Default Need help locating EGR temp switch

I have an 87 vert and am getting a code 32 error after 15 to 20 minutes of driving. I was told that 95 % of the time that it is a bad EGR temp switch. My haynes manual mentions the switch but does no say where it's located. Can someone let me know where it is and can it be replaced without removing th plenum ?

Look on the top of the EGR tube near the intake base connection; if not there check the front of the EGR valve.

There is an EGR system test method on my site so you can isolate the problem before throwing parts at it.

"The EGR Temperature Switch, located atop the EGR Tube.
NOTE: 2) The connector in the Dk Grn wire from the EGR Temperatrue Switch is located behind the intake base to the left of the distributor. "

Yes I am a newbie. I need all the help that I can get. Located atop which EGR tube and where is the EGR tube located on an 87? I looked behind the intake base to the left of the distributor and don't see the switch or dark green wire. It would be a great help if anyone that has a 87 and replaced the switch could reply and/or post a pic of where it is located.

Though your EGR tube differs a little from the one on my '88, it is located in the same spot.

It connects into the right rear of the intake base and into the top of the right header just in front of where the #8 cylinder exahust port comes in. Just run your hand back along the right valve cover and you will hit the EGR tube where it crosses over the cover. The EGR tube should have a silver sheath around it to retain heat.

And if you purchase the switch you will have no problem identifynig it. One thing I found-it was much easier to splice in the new switch than unplug it. On my 87 the wire ran down behind the dist. impossible for me to reach the plug and the only way for me to unplug it was to remove the dist. But having done it-it cured my 32.
