Default Brake fluid ?

Under slightly-heavy braking or cornering, the parking brake light flashes on and then the Service ASR and Service ABS lights come on and stay on but the parking brake light goes out.

Doing a little research, apparently some people have had this problem due to low brake fluid. I looked at the brake fluid but the level is only a smidge low(right under the max line). Is there any other things it oculd be?

P.S. I was looking at the fluid and it looks pretty nasty, probably the original stuff put in there. Is there a good procedure for changing and flushing all the fluid out other than doing it through the brake lines?

If fluid is just "a smidge low," then when you corner the fluid is sloshing around and probably allowing the low fluid indicator sensor to show no fluid for a short time. That would explain the low fluid indicator. Wouldn't hurt to flush system with new fluid if it's never been done. You'll be surprised at how much better your braking is after you've done that. You can do it, but probably a lot easier to have a shop with proper equipment do it (and won't take nearly as long!)

A thorough bleed of the system is in order. The nasty fluid itself could be the cause of your problem. Best way to flush the system is the bleed process. You can do this yourself or get a good shop to do it. It takes four or five cans of brake fluid to do the complete job. Most shops may not want to spend the time it takes and may just bleed enough out so the fluid in the MC looks clean.

If you can get the car up in the air and the wheels off, you can do your own GRAVITY bleed

E mail me if I can be of further assistance
