Default Header install status...

Well, here's where I'm at. I need to either 1) figure out how to get the top bolt of the cat bracket off on the driver's side (i think that's impossible without dropping the tranny/engine)... or 2) dremel off the damn thing as high as I can. I can't get the driver's side header on with that on there. Passenger side is all done (minus oil dip stick). Not going to worry about bolting it down .. my dip stick goes in so tight it will never come out.

Here are the pics:

You may be able to unbolt the cat and jut leave the bracket in there. but I'm not sure if it will touch the header or not. As far as I know or can think of is to remove the c-beam and drive shaft then lower the rear end of the trans. Useing a LONG extension remove the bolt.
I will be having my trans rebuilt when I put my headers in so this wont be a problem for me.

I've never heard of a cat bracket. Is that something on the newer LT-1s?

ok the cat bracket I know exactly what you are talking about!!!!!
on the drivers side i cut it with a saw zall! hard and scary!!!!
now the other side i managed to get a wrench up in there
thes 2 bolts you have to get off on top and on the side sticking out toward the drivers side. get the side one first and then cut the pipe with a saw zall below the precat. and if you get the other part of the header loose from it. meaning with the top bolt in it can rotate freely side to side. doing this you can move the cat to the side and reach the top bolt.
now the easiest thing to do on the drivers side is remove the inner fender panel next to the ac condensor. that way you can easily acess under the ac condensor. their are 4 bolts holding the ac in just remove them and swing the ac out of the way.
if you need anything else email me

Sounds like another reason why I like my 92 over the later models.

I'm sure you'll figure something out though

I just bent the bracket out of the way... It was really soft metal and it tucks behind the header with no issues... I wonder how hard it is to pull a 6 speed out....

I already tried actually .. won't fit still. And half of the bracket was welded off last time i had exhaust work because the guys got so pissed at how hard it was to put the damn cat back on. I don't blame them!

YEP!! I got the passenger off after about 20 minutes of messing with the bolt and a really long 9/16ths.

I removed the a/c and all that, so i've got that covered... just that one damn bolt on the bell housing. It won't last long against my dremel though .
