Default Is my opti bad?

I have read till I am blue in the face about these opti's

We have a 93 LT1 with 30K. Never driven in rain, never exposed to any type of spraying water of any kind. We had an incident this morning whrere we drove the car 10 miles, prked it for 20 minutes, then when we started it it ran horrible. Very rough idle, backfireing through the exhaust. Then after 10 minutes ran fine. I have ran it for over 50 miles today and no problems at all.

Is it possible that condensation got into the opti, then when I started it after sitting it the opti was wet? I know thee are optical discs inside. If they get wet once are they ruined? When they dry out are they ok? I am wondering if I should replace it, or keep the existing opti and install the upgrade to vent it to the intake.

Anyone have any recommendations?

At 30k the opti should still be fine, unless it's been drowned in water or the water pump is leaking on it. And from the sounds of things, its running great now..

I'd pull the error codes and see what they point to first. maybe a spark plug? Or a plug wire was grounding out causing a missfire?.. etc.. Heck could have been a mouse in the tail pipe..

Believe someone posted how to pull the codes on a '93, might be in the tech tips.

Good luck.

no codes. I think that i had condensation get in to the opti. It was 36 degrees when we left this morning. I beleive when I parked for 20 min,the opti got condensation, and caused the trouble.

Has anyone used the mod to vent the opti to the intake? Does it work well?

I don't know if your opti is bad, but my '93 went at 22K, just picked up a lot of moisture I suppose. I replaced it myself, using a '93 dist. and a cap from a '96, which I modified to vent into the intake maniflod. So far so good, but only 26K on it now. There was an article about how to do this in 'Corvette Fever'. There is a certain GM part from a '96 that is like a moisture or vent bleed tube n valve that you splice into some manifold vac., like egr. The '96 cap has a fitting for this. You can't use a '96 dist. because the cam gear is different, so you have to plug up one vent opening in the '93 dist and make a brass tube fit the other opening then attach to the vent part.
