My 92 coupe dash lights flicker especially when the brake lights go on or a fan kicks in. The alternator is putting out about 14 to 14.8. Any ideas about what is causing this will be apppreciated. The ground wire connections I can see look OK. Thanks in advance.
Remove your battery cables (neg first) and clean the cable lugs and the battery posts and replace (neg last).
The voltage regulator cannot instantly correct for a sudden large current being drawn and can be the reason you see a single flicker when a heavy current is suddenly drawn and particularly when the engine is idling since the alternator cannot deliver its rated current. Inadequite cable connection doesn't allow the battery to help pick up the sudden load current and is why I recommend you clean your battery connections. Even so, you may be a bit sensitive to flicker and if the connection cleaning doesn't fix it you may just have to suck it up!
