Default Doing dyno runs for tuning - Ski_dwn_it?

I'm heading to the dyno next weekend. I'm planning on sending the data off to have someone burn me a new chip (Where is Ski_dwn_it when you need him.....). Any advice on what to do? I'm planning 3-4 runs. The first run will be with my boost retard in place, water/EtOH injection turned off (this is a vortech SC car with Carrol Supercharging injection kit). The second run will be with boost retart in place and injection turned on. I want to get hose out of the way for a baseline. I'm "supposed" to be able to run with no boost retard on the EtOH... Not sure I want to push it, I'm planning on getting some street dyno runs done this week to see how far back I can dial the retard before knocking, so not to waste time on the dyno trying to find it. So that leaves me with basically 2 runs at full tilt, dialed back boost retard. What do I need to make sure I log? Anything to keep in mind? I want to make sure I get a good tune out of this.....

Thanks.

Yes, find somebody local that can do it with you while at the dyno. Otherwise you'll be stuck in the mail order nightmare of "will it work?" without being able to prove multiple tunes back to back.

Your setup is one that should NOT be guessed at and should be done by someone in person. A boosted car that goes lean just that one time is a time bomb.

Hmmm? Tell "Hooked Up" that. Just got him a new tune he went several new bests one of which was a 1.29 60' time! Several other runs the car launched even harder and lifted so high , he had to let off. The one run he stayed in it he ran 10.19s in worse weather than all his other bests. Never touched the car in person on any of these tunes. We did share some information back and forth - mostly just phone conversations and emails. And I think, his setup is a little more radical than your average street vette.

It can be done if you know what your doing - the proof is in the pudding

Ztrips, if you need anything, just email me at ski_dwn_it@yahoo.com

Sorry, I still don't agree that mail order is the way to go. Obviously you do since you profit from it. If someone is willing to wait and take the risks involved, then more power to them.

You've been hangin out with the TGO crew a little too much.

"Someone is willing to wait" - if your into tuning then you should know there is more of a learning curve and more time involved in trying to learn all there is to learn, than waiting on a chip from someone that knows what their doing.

I do not pretend to be able to get the tunes to 100% exact accuracy, as some of the people do on the TGO and as I could in person. But I can get you 90% of the way there, and truth be known - you or myself would not be able to tell the difference with the other 10% being there. You have that much difference on day to day weather, gasoline manuf. change requirements between winter and summer, etc.

At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to their own opinion of tuning and their expectations/desires. The 90% of the guys that "claim" to be tuners at the before mentioned board - couldn't tune their cars to get out of the way of themselves on a downhill slope.

As for profit, that is debatable, I have worked the last 3 nights with guys, till past 10pm each night non-stop trying to help them out and come up with better techniques and results for their applications. So if I was keeping track of the other things I am giving up (family time), my car, my other hobbies, and mostly free time - I would say I am not running a very profitable business. Ask my wife the same, she will give you an EARFUL.

Not trying to start crap here, and just trying to let you know I don't pretend to be a superhero tuner, I get some good results which have been well documented here and other places. This has all been debated previous and I try to help the people out here, cause if they don't get the tunes from someone that at least cares to try to help, they will get it from someone that doesn't. What is the lesser of two evils?

You have been pretty quiet lately, I appreciate all the work you have done on your car in the past and moreso that you do it all yourself along with your father. My father helps me out a lot as well. Its good time spent, although sometimes we are like the Tuttles on American Chopper.

Have your heads been holding up ok after those repairs you guys did?

Haven't been there in months actually. I've been too busy at work to do much of anything besides a little forum browsing here and there. Haven't driven the car in over a month, but so far its holding up nice.

Thanks.
ski_dwn_it is the way to go for the amount of work he offers compare to the cost of the chip. I got my bros car tuned by him and I can’t ask for anything better. And if you’re worried about it taking so long, I had my brother’s chip shipped on a Thursday and got it back by Saturday of the same week. And you will never lose his service tell know I still email him with questions and he emails me back with the answers. Trust me if you really plan on taking it to a shop near by plan on spending up to 500$ and close to that every time you change anything with your set up. And let me just add my brothers set up is not a simple setup and I needs lot of work to get it right and Jesse got it just right

I went with jesse on the chip route because I figured how bad could it be, and wanted to because I seen on the board of the great results came about... Im 200% pleased with the chips I received and profit that is hard pressed in my eyes he did me a FAVOR. I still have a gen6 dfi with vic that I purchased for over $800 that Im gonna ebay because I like the chips so much Jesse only charged me $390 for the 3 chips if you went outside that would prob get you one chip. Check the times in jesse's sig personally anyone that could accomplish those spectacular times on stock ecm gear has my vote any day of the week, by the way I have a 396 stroker that the tune went on....
