The NOx goes up. I don't believe this is a performance enhancing move unless the stock system is busted. It only comes on during light to moderate throttle. Not at idle and not at WFO. However, the EGR system can be a pain to do if you're changing to long tubes or have other mods moving forward.
The LT4 engine doesn't even have EGR because it's built in with the cam overlap!
