Has anyone ever attempted to adapt the Long brand shifter to the 4 + 3? ( remember, the Long accompanies the Richmonf 6 speed trans as a direct replacement for the 4 + 3). I'd do a lot to improve the feel of the OEM shifter. Just wondering if anyone ever tried this cure. Thanks, Jack
The 4+3 uses a Borg-Warner Super T10 as the main portion and it would be great to see a Hurst shifter as a replacement item. Unfortunately there is probably nowhere near enough room on the side of the OD portion so that the ears and bolt holes could be mounted there. An aftermarket case would have been the only real way to mount one. The trans tunnel is pretty narrow at that point so that's most likely why GM mounted the factory shifter to the body
It's too bad that GM didn't think about a high quality shifter in these cars. The factory shifter on my earlier sharks sucked so they all (70, 73 and 78) got Hurst units as replacements.
GM did right in the GTO as did MoPar in the varoius muscle cars they had. The factory Hurst shifter in my '69 Road Runner was great.
