I would only use the GM stuff you get at a dealer, or I've heard the BMW stuff is good too.

Okay.. Rockland Standard Gear is the only authorized service center for ZF tranny's in the US and they recommend the GM oil or the Castrol equivalent that you can only get from the BMW dealer ship... Mike from Rockland says that if you use the wrong oil in these tranny's you open up your self to a world of problems because of the differences in viscoscity of oils and how they act adding pressure or not enough to maitain protection... not something you should mess with because the wrong oil can burn up this tranny and cost lots of $$
Mike also said that you should change your oil in the tranny more like every 20-30K miles unlike the GM recommended 50K....

The GM stuff is good enough for me...don't forget to add the small bottle of positraction additive when changing differential fluid(hehe
)

Ouch, I hope you're kidding, this is the ZF6 thread, not the Dana 36/44 thread.

And the motor too - helps the rings seal. Add it to radiator, and wham, million mile waterpump. That posi additive is a real panacea!

I saw the Rev Bob Tilton was selling it along with some actual Jordan River H2O, add it to your radiator and it makes your H2O pump actually add HP!

This subject has been beaten to death.
I'll post this info one more time, maybe one of the administrators can make a sticky for us....
If you check ZF web page you will find:
"Q: What type of oil do I need to use in my ZF S6-40 Corvette transmission?
A: ZF only recommends the following lubricant for S6-40 transmissions. The GM oil (available from GM with part number 1052931) and the Castrol Synthetic Formula RS 10W60 (available from BMW with part number 0751009420)."
Go read for yourself....
http://www.zf-group.com/am/pc/pt/ampcpt03.phtml
ALSO ...in the spare parts catalog also on the ZF site...
"All units must use ZF recommended GM Oil (GM Part # 1052931) or Castrol Formula RS 10W60."
http://www.zf-group.com/pdf/S640.pdf
It's a no brainer for me...Castrol goes in mine, replaced every 30,000 miles are recommended by ZF themselves.
Oh, and friction additive in a transmission? I don't think so.

posi additive? never heard of that... but it is a friction modifer for rather thick oils...
I might just have to get up with Bill on this one.
