My 88 wants to hunt a little or walk on somewhat rough roads, (not perfectly smooth road lets say). I have replaced the tires, 3 - all wheel alignments, checked the bushings, rack and tie rod ends for play, and even tightened up the gear box a little. None of this seemed to help. On smooth road the car tracks very strait, hands off. I have worked in the general automotive field for 20 years and I would feel there was a problem if I felt this in any other car. The only thing I can think of is that the tires being, (275/40/17s), are so wide that they catch every dip or bump in the road. Any ideas ?
I think it the nature of the beast, those wide tires seem to follow the ruts. I try to drive mine on the "high spots", but sometimes it "squirls" around on me. Makes you pay attention to driving.
I was thinking of running one of those cross country high mile per hour races, and I wonder about the higher mph, based on what I feel during normal drving...hmmmm
