Opti vs. Dynaspark question
My '94 coupe, LT1, 6spd., stock has 96k miles and the original opti. No problems now, but I'm a new owner to this vette and would like to get the opti before it gets me. Considering either new opti (redisigned model after '94) or a dynaspark replacement. Reliability most important factor and I would like to be able to wash off the engine occassionally (which I can't do now) and drive in the rain/water (as in daily driver/long trips) without fear. Any Dynaspark owners out there with opinions/experience to offer or any other knowledgable opinions?

Washing off the engine of any modern computer controlled car isn't exactly a good idea. As far as driving in rain and water, trust me you'll be just fine with an OEM unit provided you stay away from deep water.

a cavaet: there seems to be a run of bad opti's coming from GM.
Additionally, DynaTech is doing rebuilds for $250.00. That is either parts cost, or, them doing the labour, either way, $250.00.
As for washing the engine... it isn't a bad thing... every connector under the hood is sealed with a weather back connector... the bigger problem is that the opti does not like getting wet... so I advise against it, unless you use a super low pressure hose, or, a rag. Never use a pressure washer or steam cleaner to hit the entire motor at once.

I just spent a couple of weeks deciding on whether to get the Dynaspark or the Delteq. Both units are worthy. I went with the Dynaspark as the replacement seemed the most straightforward. Now, if I need to get the rest of the engine done to see how it all works.

I did the dynaspark on an otherwise stock engine. I bought it because of the cross ventilation and sealed case. The price of our early optis is soooo high - the additional expense of the dynaspark seemed worth it. If I had a 95 or 96, I probably would have bought the stock one.
It works good as new.
I wouldn't recommend replacing parts that are working fine though.

opti vs. Dynaspark?
Thanks for the input. Pony Express Driver mentioned the Delteq modification which I had not considered. I have read about and did like the idea but have further questions about this for Pony express Driver (or anyone else).
What has to be pulled to install it (balancer? water pump? etc.)?
Does this mod seal the distributor better than orig. opti?
