Pulling the motor either this weekend or next weekend. I've got a motor stand and hoist a friend is loaning me for a couple months. I would really like to pull the motor and trans together as I've pulled just the trans out of these cars before, it ain't fun. The hood, front bumper and cooling unit are all off the car already.
What my question is what to hook the chain to on these TPI cars. I don't figure the intake as everything is aluminum. I know on a carbed car you just bolt a plate with a hook or eye on it to the intake where the carb goes but not sure on this one.
I put the chain on two intake manifold bolts(going into heads). Worked fine for me, just make sure they are threaded in well. You're not actually lifting it by the intake, more the heads.
Make sure you have a firend or two there with you. This is not a job to do yourself, there is little to no clearance in the compartment.
I pulled my engine with just the bellhousing attached but I have a 6spd. I'd think you'd be better off disconnecting the tranny. Otherwise to pull it out enough you'll probably have to pull the hood off to get it out far enough.
He already stated that the hood is off.....Althought the head is aluminum, you should be able to attach it there...one in the front corner and one in the opposite rear. Like said above, make sure they are in there good. Have fun!
I would have left the hood on and pulled just the motor if posible. I have pulled installed 4 motors in the last year (Don't ask) and everytime have left the hood in place and pulled the motor and onthe 6 speed (Twice) pulled it with the bellhousing on and the trany inplace. As far as where to hhok at, I connect directly to the heads using the assy bolts in the front/rear of the heads. I have also found that removing the motor mounts from the motor once it is lifted enough to do so realy makes things a lot easier.
I would have left the hood on and pulled just the motor if posible.
Its a project car I bought, the hood wasn't on it when I got it. Thanks for the advice, I've got my roomate that said he'd help, he's a bit of a car guy too.
