I've been running a Meziere electric water pump on my car for almost 3+ years now. I'm actually on my second one. The first one didn't have any motor problems but rather the wiring connection seemed flaky at best, even when I re-did all of my wiring leading to the pump.
I convinced myself that it must be some flaky connection inside the pump itself. I contacted Meziere and they said that they would gladly repair it for me for well less than the cost of a new one. Unfortunately I couldn't afford the downtime. I just bought another one and put it on the car and promptly forgot about it.
While looking for some other stuff today I came across the box that had my old pump in it, looks like I forgot to send it off. Oh well, I'd long since eaten the money on it, I thought I'd just take it apart and see if it could be fixed. When I disassembled the pump I found what looks like a very high quality electric motor. Sure enough where the wires connect to the brushes, the positive terminal looked pretty bad. I just took it off and looked a little closer. It was corroded up looked pretty crappy. I cleaned it all up and put some new wire on it and put it back together.
We connected the motor to a variable DC source and cranked it up to 12 volts Sure enough the motor took off spinning in my hand just like it was brand new. No amount of wiggling on the wires would make it slow down or stop either. Now I have a spare
Thats cool. I would like to have an extra myself just incase they ever stop making them someday. My car sits in the garage the majority of the time and gets less than 2000 miles a year so my pump will probably last a long time but who knows if they'll be available 10 years from now.
Well here's the deal. They are a good company making a quality product. If people keep giving them business, they'll still be around. If nobody buys their stuff they'll go under.
