The 700R4 in my 88 coupe is not working properly. It is having a hard time kicking into overdrive. Normally, when I put it into overdrive, even at low speeds, it kicks right in. Now, OD and D work as if there is no difference.
When it gets into overdrive at low speeds, the RPM's drop like they are suposed to. However, the engine will rev like its in neutral up until it reaches the RPM where Drive usally would be, and then the car accelerates.
Could there be a solenoid that is not locking up the converter? Is the torque converter itself the probem?????
Unless the TV cable broke or something to cause it to adjust it self, I can't see that being the problem. Have "Stomped" on it recently? That couls cause it to do that.
Have you checked the fluid? It really needs to be on the mark at operating temp.

The way you have written this, is confusing to me. Overdrive isn't supposed to engage at low speeds, or merely by moving the lever fron D to OD. Part of THAT depends on what you are referring to as "low speeds". Corvette automatics are 4 speed transmissions, with third gear direct, and fourth overdrive. It isn't like the 4+3 manual trans where the OD can be engaged on top of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. First, the trans has to run through the first three gears, and then, fourth gear (OD) can be engaged. Are you confusing OD with coverter lock up? Or is your writing just not clear?
