That info above is off...

Hedmen are 1 5/8" Along with LPE (i believe)

EM's, Hookers and TPIS are 1 3/4" pipe...

There are many arguements about which are better- do a search.

Personally I think the gains from 1 5/8" would be much better for your setup.

TPIS, EM LPE and Hedmans all seem to fit well with no major mods...
Hookers, I'm told, are an adventure

That is somewhat basackwards. Hooker's are 1 3/4" and Hedman's are 1 5/8ths. I'm not sure of the TPiS, but I believe the Stainless Works are 1 5/8ths, also. 1 3/4 is NOT better. The 1 5/8ths will provide all the top end power of the 1 3/4, plus give a boost in the low end that the too large, 1 3/4" tubes can't. Do a search on tube size. My TPIS are 1 5/8", I used a stock O2 for a number of years with little issue. Might drop out of closed loop at idle but thats about it. I recently went to a heated version while I had the engine out for a minor ring, port & valve job. O2 port is in the header, bought directly from www.tpis.com although you can on rare occasion find them elsewhere.

TPIS headerd for the L98 are on back order as of last week. I would go on the summitracing.com website, or call 1-800-230-3030 and talk the sales man. I think the ceramic 2149's are $509 and the corresponding Y pipe (16720), I think that's the part No. for the Y pipe, check it when you talk to the salesman. Shipping is $15.00-- oh, and y pipe is $170 or so. The header come with all the pollution attached. LOL.

IN terms of quality what do you guys like, Hooker, TPIS, Headman, or other suggestions.

LPE has Hookers on their website.

Is there a sinificant difference in fit, finish, and durability?

Also, many manufacturers have two listings, one set is about $300 and the other is about $500. The difference is the pollution stuff (damn enviromentalists). Can I get away with the cheaper set? Probably not.

Durability is going to be fairly equal among those that are ceramic coated. I think that those that are coated both inside and out would have an edge on longevity. Hooker coats their's on the out side, only.

Your usage and local laws will determine if you need headers that will accommodate smog hook ups. You WILL have to have or make a provision for the O2 sensor(s).

They have all the O2 sensor and emissions hookups.

And, they will give a huge HP gain over the stock system.

Forum member, TA, just put them on and ask him how he likes them.

Vic
As Vic pointed out, I just put 2149s on my car and I am very happy to say the least. Fit and finish is very good and they appear to be a great performance gain. I improved on my previous best 1/4 mile time by .2 although the weather was pretty good so I believe they were worth about .15 on the car.

TA, THANKS!!! I was looking at TPIS but was warned about spark plug wire clearence. How's the clearence with the hookers? Any problem?

How tough was the install? I have a cat back system, will the hookers bolt right to the X pipe without major mods? Can I fit a high flow cat just to remain legal?

Thanks!!

Wire clearance and plug access appear to be pretty good. As you can see by the picture below the wires get pretty close to the emissions plumbing so I put a little heat wrap in that area. I didn't do the install myself (was a little short on time that week) but my mechanic said they went in fairly easily. I got the hooker y-pipe which hooks the headers up directlt to the main cat.
