I decided to fix the floppys today and it was easier than I thought it would be.There used to be more threads in the archives on this and I probably used a few of some members tricks.
I used a razor blade and made a cut from the light wire towards the outside about 2" long. Then I could see all of the busted up high quality cardboard. Between the 2 pieces of cardboard I inserted 2 pieces of plastic cut from a For Sale sign. Each piece was about 1 1/2 X 3". Long enough to go in against the mirror and extend to the outer edge of the visor. I stacked one on top of the other and used 1 minute epoxy to hold them in place between the cardboard. I then tucked the cut visor material in between the top 1/2" of the cardboard and glued it with some black weatherstrip adhesive. It may not be perfect but it is alot better than flapping in the wind. Craig
Jerry Watts(C4 Engineer) had a fix for this similar to what you described, except that he remove the mirror and slid the plastic in that way and then reattached the mirror. I haven't tried it yet, but I will be soon.

No need to cut the visor material. Remove the mirror to gain access. I used the plastic from floppy discs.
I should have asked you guys how to remove the mirror. I pryed on it a little but I didn't want to break anything. It did not want to come out easily so I opted for plan B.
