89 Ignition cyl--cost
Real quick-Car's been in the shop for a month; guy hasn't touched it! Anyway, spoke with him this morning and had the WTF discussion. Claims he lost the keys. Said he would have new ones made; Let me ask this...Being as my ign. cyl is a little sloppy, I'm considering having him replace it, and throwing on a new wheel while its apart. Have'nt approached him with this yet. What would be a reasonable amount for me to pay for parts and labor? Don't wish to do it myself; Tilt colums and me don't get along. I do have the original spare, but told him I can't find it. Depending on what a new cyl would cost, it might turn up. Advice, please. I'm P.O.'d! Thanx

First, the key has to be matched to the ignition cylinder so that the resistor in the key will match the resistance value in the switch. There are 15 (IIRC) possible values.
Some lock shops will cut a new GM key with the pellet but most places will tell you to take it to a dealer. A dealer may require picture ID along with the vehicle registration to get a duplicate key made.
