I put mine between the condensor and the rad. I used the plastic ties that came with it and attached it to the condensor. It was easy to run the lines out the side into the right headlight well and then under the frame rail and up to the radiator connections. Also the top trans line to the rad is the one to feed the cooler.
Are you sure you use the top line, not the bottom one? I thought the cooler should be connected after the radiator's cooler. Isn't the top line the in line to the radiator, and the bottom one the out line?

I'll go beyond this even... why does anyone need a trans cooler? I autox my 93 auto, is it absolutley necessary to have one? Doesn't is seem that the factory would have thought of this when designing a performance car? TIA...

I put a high stall converter in, it's much smaller so it has less fluid, less fluid = more heat.
Ed(fastzr1), the one I have pictured is a B&M, I forget the specs, but it's either a 19,000 or 24,000 lb cooler, got it from Summit.

The only reason I put a cooler on is for track days. I did a day at Summit Point in August and the fluid was cooking out of the pan. I put the cooler on right after that.

Okay, that makes sense. But if I have a completely stock transmission and the only remotely interesting thing that I do with the car is autox on the weekends, is it really necessary in my case?
Thanks,
Ed
BTW... Mojo... are you attaching your brackets to the bolts that mount the air dam? If so, where are you securing the brackets at the top? (couldn't see from the pics... need to take out contacts and put in glasses maybe... )

I struggled with this same thing before I put a cooler on and I don't even auto cross, but like Mojo, I did have a higher stall put in. But anyway, what ultimately made up my mind for me was a comment that was made on this forum. And the comment was in the form of a question:
"How many transmissons do you know of that have had to be rebuilt because they were running to cold?"
Believe it or not, I actually called a few local transmission shops and asked them that exact question. Not surprisingly, not a single one said they had ever "to their knowledge" had to rebuild a transmission that could be linked to running to cold.
So with that, I thought, what can it hurt? It's a realitively cheap addition, and if nothing else I know it shouldn't over heat.

I was installing the Big Mouth when I took those pics, I undid all the bolts to move the cooler out of the way. Your eyes are good.
With the stacked plate design, does it matter which way the fittings face? I know to lay the cooler on the condensor, the same way as the condensor and radiator, but does it matter if the hoses attach at the top, bottom, or side? I guess the fluid will be pushed through either way, right? I was going to mount mine with the lines facing the passenger side, so they will be shorter/easier to run.

Nope mount it anyway that is easy...good luck I know you'll be happy with it..
